Earthquakes are one of the dangerous disasters we should be prepared to hit. One of the ways we could prepare for these earthquakes is by building safer buildings. Buildings that had a solid foundation are more likely to stay standing than those that do not have the solid foundation. Every area that is prone to an earthquake should have a well thought out plan of how to act and react before, during and after the earthquake. One of the main advises taught during earthquake drills is to duck under heavy furniture. This is a great way to protect you, but other safe havens can also help. Some of these locations include doorways, lintels, and corners of rooms. These places may provide enough room if they were to fall and could help you survive at the moment of impact. All households are advised to have and emergency pack with times like water purification tablets, basic medication, and a flashlight (McGuire, 2002).
